Parables of Jesus Series: The disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Why do you speak to people in parables?" He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given o you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. This is why I speak to them in parables." Matthew 13:10-13
In its most basic form, a parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. It's meant to impact the way that you think and the way that you live. During the next few weeks we'll find out together that Jesus wants to tell you a story. For some it will conceal the truth. For others, it will reveal the truth. It all depends on your heart. Incredibly, the often overlooked parables give us about a third of Jesus' teachings - they tell us an incredible amount about Jesus and his kingdom. During Jesus' earthly ministry that's what the parables were all about - illustrations to unfold the kingdom of God.
